Study: Selby General Hospital Best for Orthopedic Surgery | News, Sports, Jobs


MARIETTA – Selby General Hospital is one of America’s top 100 hospitals for orthopedic surgery, according to a nationwide study by Healthgrades, an online resource for physician and hospital information.

Each year, Healthgrades assesses hospital performance at nearly 4,500 hospitals nationwide for 32 of the most common hospitalization procedures and conditions using Medicare data, and appendectomy and bariatric surgery outcomes using the data from all payers provided by 15 states, according to a news release.

This achievement is among findings released recently in the 2020 Healthgrades report to the nation. The new report demonstrates the importance of hospital quality to hospital leaders and consumers.

For its analysis, Healthgrades assessed approximately 45 million Medicare hospitalization records for nearly 4,500 acute care hospitals nationwide to assess hospital performance for 32 common conditions and procedures, and assessed appendectomy and bariatric surgery outcomes using all-payer data provided by 15 states. . Healthgrades recognizes a hospital’s quality achievements in terms of cohort-specific performance, performance in specialty areas, and overall clinical quality. Cohorts of individual procedures or conditions are designated as 5-star (statistically significantly better than expected), 3-star (statistically significantly worse than expected), and 1-star (statistically significantly worse than expected) categories.
