Prisma acquires Lexington Orthopedic Surgery Center, the company’s first outpatient practice

Prisma Health now has an orthopedic surgery practice in Lexington.

The upstate-based hospital system with a strong presence in the Midlands announced on Wednesday its acquisition of the Moore Orthopedic Clinic Ambulatory Surgery Center on Saluda Pointe Drive. The facility will be renamed the Prisma Health Center for Orthopedic Surgery.

A company statement says it is Prisma’s “first licensed and accredited outpatient surgery center.”

The first surgery after the change of ownership was scheduled to take place on May 16.

“Ambulatory surgery centers, or ASCs, are facilities where non-emergency, elective surgeries are performed that do not require hospitalization,” the statement noted. “The facility offers patients the option of orthopedic surgery at a lower cost to meet the growing demand for affordable outpatient services by patients and their insurers.

Prisma continued to grow its presence in Lexington County, with locations in Lexington, Chapin and West Columbia – and Irmo just across the Richland County line.

“Prisma Health is always striving to bring more health care options and services to our communities across the state to help people live healthier lives: more locations, better access, new doctors and specialists and cutting-edge technology, all close to home,” Beth Tibbs, senior vice president and chief operating officer of Prisma Health Medical Group, is quoted in the statement. “We are delighted with the excellent quality and value that the surgery center adds to our range of outpatient services.”

The statement said the acquisition is “part of a larger effort to provide services to medically qualified patients at a lower cost than is possible in a hospital setting.” Prisma Health plans to provide more care options outside of the hospital environment for patients who can recover safely at home without spending the night in the hospital.

Previously scheduled surgeries at the Moore Clinic will proceed as planned, and physicians currently operating there will continue, the statement said. All orthopedic surgeons employed by the company will be eligible to apply to operate at the Lexington center.
