FORT SMITH (KFSM) – Soon patients will receive care from a new $42 million Mercy Orthopedic Hospital. It is scheduled to open Friday (October 3) in Fort Smith. The new hospital is located at the corner of 79th Street and Phoenix. Next week, patients will be able to receive care from the hospital.
Construction began in September 2011 on the facility. The two-storey hospital is attached to the already existing surgery center. Ten orthopedic surgeons will be on staff. The new facility includes everything from screening areas to rehabilitation care to help patients get back on their feet faster.
The first floor offers a rehabilitation center with a therapy pool, screening area, surgery waiting room and a cafe open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Then, on the second floor, people will find 24 patient rooms, a chapel and many waiting rooms for families.
Dr Greg Jones said he was delighted to have everything in one place. “The hospital will clear us for this care, which is why people don’t have to travel to Tulsa, Oklahoma City or Little Rock,” Dr. Jones said.
The same patients will arrive, but only in a new facility. “These people who have worn down the joints with their knees, hips and shoulders,” Dr. Jones said.
According to Dr. Jones, this facility will help patients get the care they need faster. “We have total joint replacement in an efficient process that separates them from anyone who is sick,” Jones said. “Everyone at this facility is ready for a speedy recovery.”
The groundbreaking ceremony for the hospital will take place on Friday (October 3) at noon. People are welcome to visit the hospital from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Mercy Orthopedic Hospital is expected to create 100 new jobs in the region.
