Ochsner Lafayette General Orthopedic Hospital closed for surgery; Redeploying staff to support Surge | Coronavirus


LAFAYETTE, Louisiana – During a press availability Thursday, August 5, 2021, Warner Thomas, President and Chief Executive Officer of Ochsner Health, announced the closure of Ochsner Lafayette General Orthopedic Hospital (Ochsner LG Ortho).

The hospital is closed for surgery as they are in the process of redeploying staff to the main campus to support the augmentation. The Ochsner LG Ortho Emergency Room WILL REMAIN OPEN.

Latest COVID-19 numbers from Ochsner Health

We now have 890 hospitalized COVID-19 patients hospitalized in our system.

On July 28, we had 514. That’s a 73% increase in just over a week.

Of our COVID-19 hospitalizations today, approximately 90% are unvaccinated.

This week we administered 20,868 COVID-19 tests and 19.75% were positive (4,122).

Pediatric numbers (system)

Positivity rates for pediatric patients (ages 0-19) tested for COVID are 24.5% this week.

Ochsner is caring for 7 pediatric COVID patients at our hospitals.

The average age of our admitted pediatric patients is 5.7 years.

Vaccine Updates

Ochsner has administered over 491,022 doses of vaccine and counting.

We expect to exceed 500,000 doses this week.

More than 1,200 Ochsner employees received a vaccine last week and we continue to see more vaccinated every day.

62% of Ochsner employees are fully vaccinated.

67% of Ochsner employees have started their vaccine series.
