Lafayette General Orthopedic Hospital becomes Acadiana’s first orthopedic hospital

Lafayette General Southwest has been transformed into a full-fledged orthopedic hospital.

According to a press release from Lafayette General Health, the hospital has been transformed into Lafayette General Orthopedic Hospital, an orthopedic center of excellence and post-acute care facility. The transition, which took place in a phased approach, allows the hospital to use staff dedicated exclusively to orthopedic care.

The hospital, located at 2810 Ambassador Caffery Parkway, will retain its emergency department and continue to provide comprehensive imaging and diagnostic services.

In order to make the transition, Lafayette General Medical Center has absorbed all cardiac services previously performed at Lafayette General Southwest.

In addition, LG Ortho’s operating and auxiliary space has been modernized to accommodate orthopedics.

“These changes will result in more patient care on both campuses and add the necessary inpatient capacity at LGMC,” LGMC CEO Patrick W. Gandy Jr. said in a released statement. “The move allows orthopedic services to centralize and adds greater convenience for patients by providing all care on one campus, from preoperative services to postoperative needs, such as physiotherapy and rehabilitation. “

Surgeries at LG Ortho began in May, and orthopedic doctor clinics will be relocating to the facility’s campus in early fall. Renovations continue at LG Ortho and the adjoining medical office, but patients will not be affected by the beautification efforts.
