Joshua Schwind, MD, became interested in health and wellness as an athlete in high school. However, understanding that movement is an integral part of all human health drew him to the field of orthopedics and sports medicine.
Today, he is part of the comprehensive and experienced team of experts at Avera Orthopedics.
Before turning to surgery, Dr. Schwind often implements conservative measures, such as injections, medications, or physical therapy to treat stiffness, dysfunction, and pain in the neck or back.
Some of the conditions it addresses include:
- Back injuries
- Lower back pain
- Neck pain
- Ruptured and degenerative discs
- Sciatica (nerve pain)
Cutting-edge technology for spinal care
The field of spine surgery is expanding rapidly, especially through the use of advanced technology. Navigation robotics gives surgeons a 3D view on a screen as they perform surgery, increasing accuracy.
âI look forward to developing a strong and comprehensive spine surgery program at Avera with technology and expertise,â said Dr. Schwind.
Avera Orthopedics Spine Specialists are a new addition to the established neck and back program offered at the Avera Brain and Spine Institute.
When Dr Schwind is not at work he enjoys weight lifting, reading, playing with his dog, spending time with his family.
